Urgent call for support to keep Wagga Wagga Mardi Gras alive in 2025
The Wagga Wagga Mardi Gras Festival faces an uncertain future and may be forced to cancel its 2025 event without the immediate backing of local businesses and the community. With sponsorships and donations dwindling, the Festival Committee, a dedicated group of volunteers, is calling on the region to step up and help keep this beloved event on the calendar.
The festival depends entirely on sponsorships and donations to cover essential costs, including entertainment, security, road closures, insurance, photography, advertising, equipment hire, and more. Without this crucial support, bringing the festival to life may not be feasible.
‘We need the community’s help to keep the Wagga Wagga Mardi Gras vibrant, inclusive, and accessible to all,’ said festival founder Holly Conroy. ‘People are often surprised to learn that the festival is run by a small team of volunteers who work year-round to make it happen. But to make 2025 a reality, we urgently need financial and in-kind support from businesses, groups, and people who believe in the power of this event to celebrate diversity and inclusivity in our region.’
Why support the festival?
The Wagga Wagga Mardi Gras Festival has become a beacon of celebration and pride across the Riverina, Central West NSW, and beyond, offering a safe, inclusive, and family-friendly event that unites the community. Sponsoring or donating to the festival is not only a way to support the rainbow community but also an opportunity to showcase your commitment to diversity, creativity, and community spirit.
Last year’s platinum sponsor, Charles Sturt University, and gold sponsor, Coles, were instrumental in making the 2024 event a success. Their support allowed us to offer a lineup of spectacular acts and activities that brought thousands together in celebration. With no confirmed support for 2025, we hope others can step up to keep this tradition alive.
